Advertising Poster February Century Magazine Spanish. Original antique advertising poster showing the cover of a 1898 issue of February Century, a monthly illustrated magazine. A drawing captioned Lieutenant Hobson in Morro Castle shows a smartly dressed man looking out of a small window. A box overlaid over the drawing contains a photograph of Major General William R. Shafter, taken by Hollinger, with the title February Century below. Text lists the articles featured in the issue - including On the Way to the North Pole by Lieutenant Richmond Pearson Hobson, Harnessing the Nile by Frederick C. Penfield and Alexander the Great�s Conquest of Asia. Printed by HA Thomas & Wylie Litho. Co., New York. Major General William Rufus Shafter served during the American Civil War, receiving the Medal of Honor, the USA�s highest military decoration, and he played a key role in the Spanish-American War. Lieutenant Richmond P. Hobson and his crew were captured during the Spanish American War after the intentional sinking of their ship Merrimac at Santiago Harbor, Cuba on June 2-3, 1898. The sinking was a failed attempt to block the Spanish ships in port. Very good condition, minor staining, repaired tears.
