Advertising Poster GPO Graham Bells Telephone Eric Fraser. Original vintage advertising poster for the General Post Office (GPO) - Graham Bell's Telephone 1876 - featuring a great illustration by Eric Fraser (1902-1983) of the Scottish-born scientist and inventor Alexander Graham Bell (1847-1922), who is credited with inventing and patenting the first practical telephone, depicted using the telephone he invented in 1876 and making the first phone call through a wall to the next room to his assistant Thomas Augustus Watson (1854-1934) with a bright star in the sky in the background, the GPO logo and stylised title text below. One of a series of posters published by the GPO to showcase the new telephone and telegraphy technologies. The General Post Office GPO was founded in 1660; Royal Mail was founded in 1516. Horizontal. Good condition, tears on edges, creasing on edges, staining, foxing. Country of issue: UK, designer: Eric Fraser, size (cm): 51x63, year of printing: 1940s.
