The traditional original 4711 Eau de Cologne perfume water was named after its address location, created by an Italian perfume maker Johann Maria Farina (1685-1766) living in Cologne Germany in 1709; legend claims the citrus fragrance was first created in 1792 by a Carthusian monk as a miracle cure for the bubonic plague and other internal and external medical uses; 4711 Eau de Cologne is now owned by Maurer & Wirtz (since 2006).
